Threshold Counseling & Consulting

I work with those who have experienced relational wounds and complex trauma. Together we can heal the painful patterns and wounded places and come into new places of your authentic, free, and flourishing self.

Hello! I’m Chelsea. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have worked with complex trauma for over a decade. I deeply believe in the human capacity to heal and flourish when there is an environment that promotes safety, healing, compassion, and curiosity. Often times this begins in the shifting of the internal environment.

I am a lover of the brain and clinical neuroscience and have seen that when we understand and work alongside our brain and nervous system, we can create the conditions to heal.

Healing is hard work! Often when we are overwhelmed it is saying that we cannot do this journey alone, nor were we meant to. I feel deeply honored to journey alongside people through healing.

My Integrated Approach

The Process

I am an integrative trauma therapist specializing in complex trauma, dissociation, and attachment-based work.

My approach is rooted in the understanding that many symptoms are adaptive responses to overwhelming experiences. Therapy is not about fixing what is “wrong,” but about creating the conditions that promote integration, regulation, and connection.

I draw from:

  • Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • Ego State / Parts Work

  • Interpersonal Neurobiology

  • Attachment-Based Therapy Models

  • Experiential Therapy Models

These modalities allow us to work not only with thoughts and insight, but with the nervous system and deeper layers of experience where trauma is often held so that healing can be embodied and lived.

Building Safety and Capacity in the Present

A core part of our work focuses on what is happening in your life right now.

Together, we work with present-day symptoms—such as anxiety, overwhelm, reactivity, or disconnection—by building awareness, regulation, and internal skills that support your nervous system.

This includes:

  • learning how to recognize internal states

  • developing tools for regulation and grounding

  • creating space between trigger and response

  • strengthening your sense of agency and choice

As this capacity grows, you begin to experience yourself differently—not just managing symptoms, but feeling more steady, more resourced, and more in control of your life.

These experiences create new, corrective patterns in the present—laying the foundation for deeper healing.

Working with Deeper Patterns and Past Wounds

Alongside present-focused work, we gently explore the deeper layers where patterns were formed.

Many “stuck” places are rooted in earlier experiences—moments where the nervous system had to adapt to overwhelming, unsafe, or unmet relational needs.

This part of therapy may include:

  • processing traumatic or emotionally significant memories

  • working with parts of self that developed in response to those experiences

  • addressing patterns that now feel overactive, sensitized, or on “overdrive”

  • supporting the nervous system in completing responses that were never able to resolve

Through approaches such as EMDR, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), and parts work, we can access and process these experiences in a way that is paced, contained, and attuned to your system.

Toward Earned Secure Attachment

As these layers of work come together, something meaningful begins to shift.

Clients often find themselves developing what is called earned secure attachment—a way of relating to themselves that feels more grounded, compassionate, and stable, even if that wasn’t their original experience.

This can look like:

  • feeling more at home in yourself

  • relating to your internal experience with curiosity instead of judgment

  • having greater freedom and flexibility in how you respond

  • accessing a more authentic sense of who you are

From this place, relationships with others also begin to change—becoming more authentic, connected, and aligned.
